Question

My wife is on a breathing machine at night.her dr doesnt want her left alone at night because stops breathing at times and must be shaken awake or get emergency care immediately.my work wants to make me work night shift.can I be fired for refusing? Work knows of her condition.I am a virginia state employee.

Answer

Check with your union representative (assuming you have one), but

it could depend upon the nature of your work as well as other factors as to

whether the Commonwealth could fire you outright without consequences(my opinion).
