Why is a luton van called a luton van?
As far as I am aware it is because in old stage coach days the lump that went over the drivers seat was called the looting' and was where the more valuable cargo was stored which was called the loot' I can only guess the way the word looting is said has become lootin', luton. it certainly tallies with the shape of the modern van.
I would love to hear confirmation of this as no one else has heard this.
