I am having problems with a child support case... If I choose to terminate my parental rights, does that take me out of the child support recovery system?
Answer
You have OBLIGATIONS to your child, not RIGHTS. Your child is the one who has rights -- rights to be supported until age 18.
Answer
There is NO such thing as "terminating parental rights" to avoid paying support. It is your child and not you who has rights in a child support case. The moment you chose to unzip your pants, the law made you responsible for the consequences, which include 18 years of child support at a minimum. The consequence of not paying is jail and loss of your drivers and professional licenses.
