Some people say that "art" is the expression of human creativeskill and imagination; it may take the form of painting, orphotography, or poetry or even music. (It should be noted thatthere are some who believe "art" should only apply to what ispainted or sculpted, while others accept the wider definition.) Artoften portrays aspects of life in a manner that preserves it forfuture generations. It may be simple, like a cave painting orcomplex like an oil on canvas by impressionist artist Claude Monet.It may show something beautiful or something ugly, but it does soin a way that makes us think and makes us appreciate the messagethe artist was trying to convey.

Good answer, but I would add that art is not what you make, butwhat it makes you.
It can change so much, from one person or time period, that onedefinition for art is not enough. Art is the ability to influenceyou-- good, bad or indifferently. If it affects you, it can andshould be called art, no matter what that affect is.
