Question

divorce interrogorities

I am in the process of getting divorced and my wife's lawyer has sent me a list of interrogorities that I have to answer. Can someone please tell what this is about? Do I have to answer them? I am defending myself in the divorce.

Answer

: divorce interrogorities

Each side is allowed to send requests for documents and requests for questions to be answered under oath.

The number of questions is limited, to I believe, 30. The questions must be phrased to be understood.

You need to answer the questions, or find a legally justifiable objection/reason to not answering the total questions or part of it.

Yes, you must answer the interrogatories within the time limit allowed, unless you get a protective order.

In the same vein, you can send such discovery to your wife.

I am sorry to be general or vague. It is because I am unfamiliar with your case, and the interrogatories.

If you have questions, you can contact me for assistance.

Answer

Re: divorce interrogorities

You do have to answer them, unless they fall into a category of privileged information, or they are abusive because of their length or nature. Perhaps you should seek some legal advice on this, perhaps without getting a lawyer totally involved in your divorce.
