Question

Hello ,

I own an automotive repair shop . I have a customer that has been dodging payments on his repair bill for the last 3 months . The car has been released to him on goodwill . WEhat can I do to get his bill payed .

Answer

Sue. If under $10,000, in Small Claims.

Answer

I would also suggest to you to become familar with the California DMV lien rules so that in the futurevyou are better protected. Dmv.ca.gov has some good info on lien sales...

Answer

You got good answers. To summarize, you have no rights beyond suing in small claims court at this point. For the future, you need to educate yourself about how to lien a vehicle for payment. Two requirements you should be aware of are that you must sill have the car - you can't release it - and you must be licensed by the Bureau of Automotive Repair. I mention this because, just guessing, if you were licensed you should have already known the rules on liens.
