Question

Sallie Mae Financial Corporation put a garnishment on my bank account back in September of 2010 for a defaulted student loan that belongs to a former friend, who made me a co-signer without my permission. I have since then asked Sallie Mae to produce a document with my signature proving that I actually co-signed for that loan. What they sent me did not contain my signature, only my typed name and address. Can I persue Sallie Mae or my former friend on a legal basis with a chance of retribution?

Answer

Unless your friend forged your signature, this would not be a criminal case. You should repost in a civil forum, perhaps collections or debtor / creditor.
