What does Va. Code 20-111.1(e) mean, because I have to add this to the final decree of my divorce document.

Question

What does Va. Code & 20-111.1(e) mean, because I have to add this to the final decree of my divorce document.

Answer

It simply means that if you have previously designated your spouse

as a beneficiary under your will, life insurance policy, 401K fund, or other

asset accounts, you cannot assume that she will necessarily be cut off from

or deprived of this benefit merely bercause you've received a final decree of divorce from her UNLESS you've taken the appropriate legal action (s) before your demise to disinherit her in your will, remove her as a named beneficiary under any life insurance policy that you may have, or other asset accounts in which she has been designated or named as a beneficiary.
