Can a person be prosecuted for punching a teenager two years ago?

Question

Can a person be prosecuted for punching a teenager two years ago?

Answer

Depending on the facts, exact date, and severity of the injury, yes.

If the charge is a misdemeanor it must be charged within two years after the commission of the crime. However some such events will be felonies. Felonies against victims under the age of 18 years must be prosecuted within seven years after the commission of the crime.

The time is extended (tolled) if during any period when the accused is not usually and publicly a resident within this state or the person who committed the crime is unknown or the crime is unknown.

It sounds like you need a lawyer.
