I've heard that singer Dionne Warwick has filed bankruptcy due to a huge tax bill which goes back 20 years.
I thought that bankruptcy doesn't erase a tax debt. Has something changed?
Answer
Tax debts can be discharged in bankruptcy subject to some fairly complicated criteria. In very general terms, it is the newer tax debts (past three years) that are not dischargeable in bankruptcy. You should speak with a bankruptcy attorney to determine if your tax debts can be discharged in bankruptcy.
